Operation Battle Buddies: This provides support dogs to veterans with PTSD. The veterans go through a screening process and once selected are presented with a 6-8 week old pure bred puppy along with the training needed for the puppies to become a certified support animal. All of this is provided free of charge to the veteran.
Adult Mission Project Team: Mission trips take place various times throughout the year. These mission trips need donations of time, talents, and treasures to be successful.
Texas Ramp Project: A team is formed to construct wheelchair ramps for families in need. The church is notified when a ramp is requested.
RACAP (Randolph Area Christian Assistance Program):
As a church, we support RACAP with collections of food throughout the year, and “sponsorship” of local families in need during the holidays. RACAP is a non-profit organization that provides local citizens crisis support with limited food, financial assistance, and referrals to other helping agencies.
Youth Missions: UMYF group participates in a mission trip each summer. They typically are in response to a crisis (natural disaster) or to help a family in need. Activities include, clean-up, construction, painting, and repairs. The team typically stays at a church in area they are serving. Shared responsibilities of the team members include meal prep, clean-up, worship planning, leading daily worship, and games. Individuals are assigned to lead hourly prayer during the day while working.
Guadalupe Family Violence Center: A nonprofit corporation providing services to victims of domestic violence. Aiding victims to recover physically, mentally, and emotionally as they build a life free from violence.
Faith in Action: Sunday worship is suspended while members of the church go out to the community to demonstrate Christian love, hands on. Projects include home repairs, yard work, painting, cleaning, letters to the city officials, mulching in city parks, and other tasks. That evening, we invite homeowners and tenants we served to a free potluck dinner at the church. Usually in the spring, but specific date varies.
Operation Christmas Child: Gift-filled shoeboxes are collected to demonstrate God’s love to children in need around the world. Schertz UMC is a drop-off site. National Collection week takes place November 14 – 21. samaritanspurse.org/occ
Backpack Meals Program: The Backpack Meals Program provides weekly backpacks of food to students in need at Watts Elementary. Having enough food to eat on the weekends helps fuel the bodies, minds, and hearts of these children who would otherwise struggle.
Heifer International: Donations are sent to Heifer International towards the purchase of primarily agricultural animals and supplies that are sent to third world families. These gifts are aimed at giving families a means of generating long term income that improves their lives. The Llama has become our symbol for this effort.
UMCOR: The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) provides relief and response efforts to people whose lives have been affected by natural disaster or other conflicts. https://www.umcmission.org/umcor
